at the counter, un-acknowledged, while the manager (owner?) conducted what appeared to be a "staff meeting" with two employees on the opposite side of the glass dessert display (in sight & ear-shot). While my husband was waiting for the check, I went up front to buy a dessert at the chocolate/dessert take-out counter. Thursday is mine and Mike’s 9 year wedding anniversary. If you can’t book a flight to Paris, this is the next best thing. It literally tastes like you’re drinking a melted chocolate bar You’re only 8 minutes away from the best hot chocolate of your life. (The restaurant is very noisy, with no sound absorbing material in the lofted space.) She returned with two tiny pitchers of the requested additional dressing. Drinking Chocolate (aka French Hot Chocolate) is rich and smooth with deep chocolate flavor. Our server apologized for misunderstanding the order. We ordered one grilled salmon salad to share we were served TWO large salads - salmon nicely grilled, served hot and tasty on a large bed of chopped romaine lettuce - necessitating us to question whether the salad had been dressed. There was an absence of a bread basket (baguette?). So non-French! Taste: average and not piping hot. The onion soup au gratin was placed in front of me with soup slopped on the under-bowl plate. The server was clearly still learning her job! No drinks were listed on the menu and the server failed to ask us what we wanted. ![]() When we were finally led into the bar/dining room to a tiny two-top, there was additional waiting for a server. Additionally, during our wait, a group of four that arrived after us were seated. Several times during our wait, the hostess returned to inform us that the people at the table "for us" were 1) finishing 2) finished 3) still chatting and 4) leaving. "Do you mind waiting?" The cold, rainy day gave us the patience to wait for a table. Here, art and good food are given free rein 100 French-made using traditional methods and pure cocoa butter, Le Chocolat des Franais guarantees natural. The hostess preceded to "unload" on us that there were two pre-paid groups and there were limited tables left for lunch. with French restaurants in France hence our unmet expectations were based on experience.) Upon entering, we requested a table for two for lunch. My husband had found this eatery via an online search of "French" restaurants in Naperville - no reservations accepted. With that said, the following is a description of my husband’s & my experience at Le Chocolat:
